10 Years Later

Russell Hammond - Friday, July 19, 2019

This year, 2019, is not like any other year in business. With all the hustle and bustle that goes into running a small business, it’s easy for big achievements to slip by without recognition. Small business owners spend most of their time planning. It’s not just about focusing on the day-to-day grind. There’s no punch in at 9am and punch out at 5pm. It’s days and nights of planning strategies, budget reports, work schedules, marketing, building relationship and so many other unseen important details. As I work on planning for the next years to come, I wanted to take a moment to stop and reflect on this big milestone. Here we are, 10 years later and so much has changed.

We beat the statistic: 96% of small businesses will fail before 10 years. Challenge accepted and achieved. Yes! Starting back in 2009, with just me myself and I, it was a not a roller coaster of events like you might think, instead it was more of a tortoise crawl getting started. Slowly and steadily I began to plan, build, and grow a business. Flash forward ten years to 2019, filled with the roller coaster kind of moments, I have a flourishing business with a full force team of employees.

It is our mission to provide land surveying services that are professional, cost effective, accurate and honest. This mission holds true to this day. Throughout the past 10 years, what I have learned stems back to our mission.

  • Honest- In all things have integrity. Seems simple and yet some businesses seem to lack this. We strive to be honest with our clients and the work we do for them.
  • Cost effective- Clients aren’t just another job number, or another dollar made; they are real people and should be treated as such. It’s about building and valuing relationships.
  • Accurate- It’s in the details to fulfill the bigger picture. Being thorough and adamant about details, large and small, is how we grow our skills to be accurate. Continuing education is a necessity to growing and staying detail oriented as times change and procedures evolve.
  • Professional- Ask for help. You can’t do it all yourself forever. Expand the team with those who can help take some of the workload in the areas you struggle. When the team expands the company grows and the more clients can be provided for. Everyone wins.

As the years keep flying by, we will always strive to set goals, create new relationships, develop different strategies all to challenge this business and never stop growing. I am very grateful to all those who have had a part in this milestone moment. Without you, this would not have been possible. Thank you! I’m looking forward to the next ten years and to see how we grow together.
